![]() These machines are compelling even for me, a person who relishes the flexibility of a more open platform - I can not imagine myself not recommending them to someone who just uses office suites or communication software. Just like I wouldn’t advise people to buy old shoes because it’s cheaper. Honestly, I’m not so hot on Apple (FD I am sending this from an iPhone), I prefer to run Linux on my machines but I would not advocate everyone to do that. Intel have been overcharging for more than a decade when innovation stagnated. It’s good for _everyone_ that these chips are as fast as the best chips on the market, have crazy low power consumption and the cost for new is comparable. I feel like I’m talking to someone who has a fixed opinion against something. So what is the trade off you think you’re making? It might be a long time before it makes sense to buy a non-Apple laptop. ![]() Whether or not they'd agree on the workstation MacPro vs 2 slot Xeon workstation market would be interesting. Intel might not even care enough and let Apple have mobile/laptop market first dibs on their latest node if Apple is willing not to touch the server market. And, hell, I bet at that point Apple will be willing to pay enough to take first dibs there as well.ĪMD will never catch up since we know they don't care to compete against Apple laptops and thus won't pay the premium for TSMC's latest art. The big deal here is that this isn't going to change until Intel's process technology catches up. The also are on arm which is another 10-20% advantage for the frontend. That's a 10-20% advantage (very rough ballpark estimate). They also have a much newer microarch design (circa 2006ish) vs AMD and Intel's early 90s designs. Apple is the only one willing to pay the premium. There's a de facto industry leader in process technology today - TSMC. Intel will release Alder Lake and catch up, AMD will reach Zen4 and catch up and Apple will just reach into their pocket and pull out a "oh here's a 45 watt 4nm CPU with two years of microarch upgrades" and the 2022 MBP 16 will have Geekbench scores of ~2200 and ~17000. They know they are in the lead since they are paying TSMC for first dibs on 5nm, but they didn't blow their load on their first generation products. They know AMD/Intel reach some performance level X and released CPUs that perform no greater than X * 1.2. It's faster than a desktop 105 watt 5800x.Īpple intentionally played to the competition here. Hell, this Geekbench is faster than a desktop 125 watt 11900k. the 12980hk and 5980hx) and beyond chips. These are 30 watt chips that trounce the competition's 65 watt (e.g. You're missing out on the fact that Apple didn't release a 12980hk or 5980hx competitor. That's still mightily impressive from a low-power laptop! But I think some of the rhetoric about the M1 Max blowing away desktop CPUs is getting a little ahead of the reality. But if these early Geekbench results are accurate, it's going to be about half as fast as my AMD desktop in code compilation (see Clang results in the detailed score breakdown). I'm very excited to get my M1 Max in a few weeks. Even AMD's top mobile CPU isn't that far behind the M1 Max in Geekbench scores. It's fast and super power efficient, but it's mostly on par with mid-range 8-core AMD desktop CPUs from 2020. Compared to modern AMD mobile parts, it's still faster but not by leaps and bounds.īut I agree that the M1 hype may be getting a little out of hand. Compared to those older CPUs, the M1 Max is a huge leap forward. ![]() People in the Mac world (excluding hackintosh) were stuck on relatively outdated x86-64 CPUs. Apple really dragged their feet on updating the old Intel Macs before the transition. No matter how you look at it, that's impressive.Ģ. ![]() It provides mid-range desktop performance in a laptop form factor with mostly fanless operation. Lawrence and Smith have that self-fulfilling X Factor. There are plenty of cop-loving action movies that are reprehensible. ![]() It’s a formula too sweet and smooth to deny.īut to simply dismiss Bad Boys for Life for being too far-fetched and violent is to close yourself off from its very real charms. What works, though, are the reactions: the screams, the swears, the quibbling between the cringing Lawrence and tough-guy Smith. Apart from one shot that tilts the camera on its side as if you are playing your Xbox while lying down, the action scenes lack any real wow factor. ![]() Regardless, the stars of the show will always be Smith and Lawrence, cussing at each other as they speed through traffic bashing into things and making things blow up. The team of screenwriters (Chris Bremner, Peter Craig and Joe Carnahan) are clearly trying to kickstart some kind of Fast and Furious group dynamic, but of the newcomers, only Núñez and Ludwig have any pizzazz. (Smith is a mere 10 years Núñez’s senior.) Also in the squad is Vanessa Hudgens (given very little to do), the enormous Alexander Ludwig (playing against type as a hacker) and Charles Melton, meant to represent a new breed of Bad Boy. The Boys’ new crew is led by Smith’s maybe-some-day love interest Rita (Paola Núñez, in her first English-language feature), a striking and tough woman who, by Hollywood standards, is an age-appropriate match. Smith (and the movie with him) scowls at such an indignity. In one scene, when our heroes prep to go out into the field, they are forced to use rubber ammunition or “ACLU bullets”. The Miami PD has a new hi-tech division with drones and tanks and Arbi-Fallah’s camera drools over the weaponry more than it does over the scantily clad Florida women hanging out at the nightclubs. This latest chapter, directed by the Belgian duo Adil El Arbi and Billal Fallah, comes 17 years after the last from explosion auteur Michael Bay (who makes a cameo appearance here). “All our lives we’ve been Bad Boys,” he says in one of the film’s more humiliating moments. He needs glasses for distance, is infrequently intimate with his wife and hears the Barcalounger calling to him. If he was endearing as a young man, he is doubly so at the age of 54, with his Bad Boys character Marcus Burnett a new grandfather eager to retire from the Miami police force. ![]() He uses an exclamatory “Oh shit!” the way Rembrandt used oils. Each time it is funny for a different reason. Lawrence, who can tell an entire story on his face in one reaction shot, must shout “Oh shit!” a hundred times in Bad Boys for Life. So, while Bad Boys for Life has a completely asinine story, generic action, predictable plot beats, moronic dialogue and truly reprehensible politics, I still had a good time. With absolute seriousness, I will be forever grateful. When I went to see his dopey 2001 comedy Black Knight, it was the first time I truly laughed with abandon post-9/11. Martin Lawrence may not have starred in a motion picture for close to a decade, but he has a special place in my life. ![]() ![]() ![]() The dystopian dimensions of their utopia come out in the open when they visit their aunt’s home.Įven though the children are raised to question the happenings around them, Ben maintains his strict authority despite having a soft disposition. Written and directed by Matt Ross, ‘Captain Fantastic’ is a poignant tale that is a somber reflection on the association of human beings and the society they have created. Ben’s acceptance of his follies allows the viewers to question their own justifications and perhaps try to assimilate such understanding in their own lives. Not only is it wonderful – it is heartfelt, comedic, gorgeous and just the right amount of sad.A personal loss forces the family to interact with the outer world, and the children are caught in the dissonance of a new lifestyle. Sadly for copy editors the world over, Captain Fantastic won’t have that problem. “It’s always tricky using a modifier like ‘fantastic’ in a movie’s title, because if the film doesn’t live up to it, the snarky review headlines just sort of write themselves. The fantastic dad is obliged to defend his rigorous regime – and the film’s register moves from affectionate satire to a more heart-tugging evocation of the joys and pitfalls of education. But nor have they seen their father subjected to the onslaught of criticism coming from his in-laws. The kids are confronted for the first time with ‘normal’ American life. Yes I am sure, I have actually worked with Cura and I know its a very nice slicer, just I wish I could find out what is the setting that is making the PrusaSlicer gcode make so much string so I can use the tunning and implementations from Team Prusa. Anyway in the Cura gcode there is also Z HOP option activated at 0.6 in the same way and there is no stringing. Yes indeed, I am aware of the Lift Z option activated, and I also tested with that option turned off, and it gets better but there is still stringing. I've gotten stringing down, but there may be differences in filament. I've attached a sample config that you can try out. I prefer PrusaSlicer for most situations because Team Prusa has done so much tuning on it for their printers, but you should be able to get good results with both with a bit of work. Try turning it off for a quick test and see if that helps. That's a work-around for over-extrusion meant to help avoid scarring when moving over horizontal printed surfaces. ZERO STRINGING, there was a small amount that when I touched it disolved in the air like it was antimatter. so I went ahead and used the standard presets from prusa in Cura. but I watched a video from Maker's Muse about the stringing in ender 3 and. I thought my problem was mechanical, something was wrong in the machine.
